Linear & Interactive Models

Linear models are a one-way process where one person transmits information to another person. In the process of receiving information there is also a noise source, which is anything that can cause a loss in the information that is being transmitted to the other person, which can be anything from regional accents to background conversations in the workplace.
Interactive models are a two-way process, where the receiver gives feedback to a given message. In this model there is a sender and a receiver. One person delivers the information or messages to the other person. These two differ because one only lets you send and receive one way, as in one person sends while the other only receives, while in the second model one person sends and receives simultaneously. The second model also is a lot more similar to an actual conversation, because both parties are actively communicating, while in the first model only one is communicating. An interactive model could be similar to a conversation you would have with your manager at work. They ask you a question, you answer and then they respond to your answer.

  1. Hey Meow Mix,
Through the reading I came to the same understanding as you. Linear Models are one way and interactive models are a two way type of interaction. Very good read and the manager example works spot on. I came up with the radio being a one way process because their is a sender broadcasting a message to a listener who can not respond. Just thought I would provide my example of a one way for you. Anyways good work, I look forward to reading more of your articles!!

  2. Meow mix, great job on this post on linear and interactive models of communication. It was thoroughly organized from beginning to end. Your descriptions of each of these models of communication were on point. I liked your explanation for the difference between the linear model and interactive model because I thought the exact same thing same thing. It pertains to the model perfectly. One thing you could have done was given an example of each of the communication models to convey your message more. However i do not think it was much needed because your description was good enough. Overall amazing job on the post I couldn’t have done any better myself and keep up the good work!
